Brazilian Passion Fruit Caipirinha Spritz

Ingredients

  • 2 oz cachaça or white rum
  • 2 fresh passion fruits, pulp scooped out
  • 1/2 lime, cut into wedges
  • 2 tsp raw cane sugar or simple syrup
  • 2 oz sparkling water or ginger beer
  • Ice (crushed preferred)
  • Fresh passion fruit half and lime wheel for garnish
  • Mint sprig optional

Instructions

  1. Place lime wedges and sugar in a rocks glass. Muddle firmly until lime is fully juiced and sugar dissolved.
  2. Add passion fruit pulp (seeds and all — they're traditional and add texture). Muddle gently once or twice.
  3. Fill the glass with crushed ice.
  4. Pour cachaça over the ice.
  5. Top with sparkling water or ginger beer and stir once from the bottom.
  6. Garnish with a fresh passion fruit half cut-side up and a lime wheel on the rim.
  7. Serve immediately with a short straw for sipping through the passion fruit seeds.
