Spicy mango margarita with chili salt rim

Spicy Mango Margarita

Prep: 5 min  |  Serves: 1

Ingredients

  • 2 oz tequila blanco
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz mango puree (fresh or frozen, thawed)
  • 1/2 oz triple sec (Cointreau preferred)
  • 1/2 oz agave syrup
  • 2-3 thin slices fresh jalapeño
  • Ice

Chili Salt Rim

  • 2 tablespoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (Tajin works great)
  • Lime wedge

Instructions

  1. Rim the glass. Mix salt and chili powder on a small plate. Run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass, then press the rim into the chili salt. Fill with ice.
  2. Muddle the jalapeño. Drop the jalapeño slices into a cocktail shaker and give them 3-4 firm presses with a muddler. You want the oils, not a paste.
  3. Shake. Add tequila, lime juice, mango puree, triple sec, agave, and a handful of ice. Shake hard for 15 seconds until the shaker frosts over.
  4. Strain and pour. Double strain through a fine mesh strainer into the prepared glass over fresh ice.
  5. Garnish. Float a thin mango slice and a jalapeño round on top.

Bartender's Notes

  • For less heat, remove the jalapeño seeds before muddling. For more, add an extra slice.
  • Frozen mango chunks blended smooth make an easy puree. Trader Joe's frozen mango is perfect.
  • Make it a virgin by swapping tequila for sparkling water and triple sec for a splash of orange juice.
