Charred Strawberry Basil Margarita with Lime and Agave

Charred Strawberry Basil Margarita with Lime and Agave

Thread the strawberries on skewers and char them briefly over the grill or a hot pan until the edges blacken and the juices caramelize.

Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled
  • 8 oz tequila blanco
  • 3 oz fresh lime juice
  • 2 oz orange liqueur
  • 2 tbsp agave syrup
  • 8 fresh basil leaves, plus more to garnish
  • Ice
  • Flaky salt and lime wedges, for the rim

Instructions

  1. Thread the strawberries on skewers and char them briefly over the grill or a hot pan until the edges blacken and the juices caramelize.
  2. Let the charred berries cool slightly, then muddle them with the basil leaves and agave in the bottom of a shaker.
  3. Add the tequila, lime juice and orange liqueur.
  4. Fill the shaker with ice and shake hard until frosty and well chilled.
  5. Run a lime wedge around the rims of your glasses and dip them in flaky salt.
  6. Fill the glasses with fresh ice.
  7. Strain the margarita over the ice, dividing the smoky strawberry mixture evenly.
  8. Garnish each with a basil leaf and a charred strawberry, and serve cold.
  9. The smoke of grilled strawberries gives this margarita a deep, jammy backbone, while basil lends a fresh herbal lift that keeps it from turning cloying. Charring fruit before it hits the shaker is a simple cookout trick that turns a familiar Mexican classic into something built for warm evenings around the fire.
