Serves 6

- 1/2 cup white rum
- 1/4 cup simple syrup
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
- 1 orange, thinly sliced
- 1 lime, thinly sliced
- 2 cups chilled sparkling water or club soda
- Ice cubes
- Fresh mint sprigs, for garnish
Instructions
- Combine the white wine, rum and simple syrup in a large pitcher and stir.
- Add the sliced strawberries, blueberries, orange and lime.
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour so the fruit infuses the wine.
- Fill tall glasses with plenty of ice.
- Pour the chilled sangria over the ice, spooning some of the berries and citrus into each glass.
- Top each with a splash of sparkling water for fizz.
- Garnish with a mint sprig and serve right away.
- Sangria is the sun-soaked party pitcher of Spain, traditionally built from wine, fruit and a little spirit and meant for sharing on a hot afternoon. Made pale and sparkling and studded with red strawberries and blue berries, it becomes a festive, low-effort Fourth of July cocktail you can mix ahead and ladle out all through the cookout.
