Sparkling Red-White-and-Blue Berry Sangria with Fresh Citrus

Sparkling Red-White-and-Blue Berry Sangria with Fresh Citrus

Combine the white wine, rum and simple syrup in a large pitcher and stir.

Serves 6

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle chilled white wine (750 ml)
  • 1/2 cup white rum
  • 1/4 cup simple syrup
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 lime, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups chilled sparkling water or club soda
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh mint sprigs, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine the white wine, rum and simple syrup in a large pitcher and stir.
  2. Add the sliced strawberries, blueberries, orange and lime.
  3. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour so the fruit infuses the wine.
  4. Fill tall glasses with plenty of ice.
  5. Pour the chilled sangria over the ice, spooning some of the berries and citrus into each glass.
  6. Top each with a splash of sparkling water for fizz.
  7. Garnish with a mint sprig and serve right away.
  8. Sangria is the sun-soaked party pitcher of Spain, traditionally built from wine, fruit and a little spirit and meant for sharing on a hot afternoon. Made pale and sparkling and studded with red strawberries and blue berries, it becomes a festive, low-effort Fourth of July cocktail you can mix ahead and ladle out all through the cookout.
